VANS in Residence at The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, Birchtown May 2022

This program provides a studio space, a stipend to support the artist to work full time for 4 weeks, and support from VANS and The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre to help to make the residency a rich experience for the artist and the community alike. 60% of the time will be dedicated to the artist’s own work (creation, research or both) and 40% of the time will be dedicated to community based work, including hands-on workshops, studio visits, talks and presentations. Due to the current restrictions in place as a result of Covid-19, the outreach may need to be done by distance, either by packages sent out to families in the community, or by online workshops made available.

This VANS in Residence will take place from April 24 - May 22, 2022. There is some flexibility - the schedule could shift by a week in either direction. The planning week can take place anytime after the artist is selected , and should take place at least 2 weeks prior to the start date of the residency.

This residency will provide time for the artist to have a period of work focused on their own practice, as well as engagement with youth and others in the community. The artist’s work can focus on research, development and/or the production of ongoing or new bodies of work. Projects that do not require access to specialized equipment are most suitable to the residency program. Artists are responsible for securing any additional specialized equipment. The outreach elements of this residency may be by distance.

A stipend of $2500 will be paid to the artist and a studio space will be provided at The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre. If the artist is from outside the area, accommodation will be provided.

The call for artists is now open.
The deadline to apply in Monday March 21,2022 at 12pm.
