I have not lived in Nova Scotia for long, and have now settled in Brooklyn, along the south shore. Creating art with children is one of my greatest passions, and I have enjoyed many years of doing just that. I am also a Rehabilitation Practitioner, with a couple of decades experience with children with challenges, especially autism and behavioral assessments. I am also an art therapist who believes that all art being created is wonderful, cathartic and therapeutic, and I never say that out loud! I have a positive attitude and come from a place of love.
Workshops and Activities
I have worked with lots of age groups, my favourite being 5 to 12 year olds. I love to create art projects that tie in with the curriculum they are involved with. For example, I have a great ceramic wall clock project for Grades 4, 5 and 6, that really shows the students the benefits and joy of learning math. A working clock to take home that is a one of a kind! I love making wild Canadian animals with younger children and have a popular bear project using multi media, including clay, cardboard, paint and glue! I have done theatre comedy and tragedy masks with students studying Ancient Greece, dragons for those studying Norse history and decorated elephants when India was being studied. There is always a way to bring students current bookwork to life, increasing their interest and proven to improve their learning. Other projects include toad houses, bird houses, sushi sets to name a few. The biggest project I was involved in was making a tile mural with individual tiles made by all teachers and students in WE Graham School, Slocan, BC. The theme was historical Slocan before the lumber mill was removed, and it was a lively project! I look forward to working with teachers to create projects specific to their classrooms.
