Workshops and Activities
I am interested to teaching students about ceramics, photography and bookbinding as these are my strengths and expertise. I would like to propose a fun filled pottery class that will use inspiration from books, slides, Internet, slideshow, examples and the students’ own stories and imaginations. I will show the students different hand-building techniques such as pinch pots, coils, slabs and sculpting, as well as, some throwing techniques on the wheel to create one or more finished functional and non-functional pieces of art that they will be proud of. I will also introduce some texture applications, carving into slip and other surface treatments that will produce some interesting results. Lastly, I will demonstrate how to decorate and apply glaze to the students’ work. The students will produce awesome pieces of work and gain new and exciting skills in ceramic arts by the end of the week course. I would also like to propose a photography project that could potentially be using analog/film and/or digital techniques depending on resources. We will explore inspiration through a number of avenues and discussions. I will show the students the basic fundamentals of photography and offer a brief history of the medium. The course would be refined and likely have a theme that the students would follow. We will create a finished photography project by the end of the course, that as a class, we can present and discuss.
