I live in Cape Breton, where the landscape and the people are a constant source of inspiration. Years of teaching art in the public schools has given me both the confidence and creative incentive to share my love and talent for art with my students. I have been the -"PAINTS Artist of the Month " - and I have been nominated for the Disney Creative Teacher of the Year Award. Both recognitions are a source of pride for me. My current choice of artistic medium is paint: Watercolors and Acrylics.
Workshops and Activities
I have taught PAINTS classes for the past several years. My workshops have included subjects such as: Nova Scotia Folk Art ( Maud Lewis) , Introduction to Impressionism ( Paul Cezanne) , Abstract Art, Color Mixing, Printmaking, Collage, Puppetry and Paper Sculptures- to name just a few. Art provides an opportunity for children to develop self- esteem, cooperation and self- motivation. It offers a chance to both learn about art and learn through art. ART IS EMOTION FLOWING THROUGH A RIVER OF IMAGINATION During my 40 year career as an art instructor, I have taught lessons in a multitude of art mediums. I believe that the goal of art education is to help children acquire a better understanding of art as well as a way to learn more about themselves and the world around them. Whenever possible, I combine my workshops in Art with Art History and/or Core Curriculum. As Pablo Picasso said: " Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up"
