Seaforth
Living near the sea provides me with a wealth of inspiration.  My art includes watercolour painting, oil painting, acrylic painting, mixed media work and drawing in graphite, conté and charcoal.  I work in my studio and on location.  I also enjoy drawing and painting people, who are endlessly fascinating.  I am fascinated by the design created by shadow and light inside the natural world, whether people, objects or landscape. My studio art classes for children and teens opened in 1994 and continue to inspire me with the wonderful imagination and experimentation that children of any age have.
Workshops and Activities
I have worked on a variety of projects in various schools and have taught in the classroom from primary through junior high using a variety of art media, including drawing skills, painting, print-making and sculpting.  I like to provide the skills and guidance to enable the students to be creative.  The goal is for the student to enjoy a new learning experience while exploring different media. I believe that art can be integrated into many areas of the school curriculum and am open to a wide range of ideas.  I have worked with teachers to incorporate these ideas into workshops. In one elementary school I taught a series of art workshops on the theme of 'healthy lifestyles'  and another series on basic math principles through art. I have also coordinated and worked on large projects involving the whole school, including murals, dioramas and multi-media projects. I especially enjoy working on local interest or historical projects which introduce the students to their immediate environment both physical and social.  An example is a project that involved a play about the history of the one-room school house which had been in their community. We began with workshops in the classroom to work out the ideas that would become the set and then i worked with the students designing, building and painting the set for the play.     Working with students is always interesting and always inspiring.
