Workshops and Activities
Cartooning and doodling are particularly fascinating. Children develop ways of drawing that are rarely encouraged in formal art classes. They pick up little tricks (a way of drawing an eye, or hair, etc.) from the media they consume or by drawing with other people, and they recycle them over and over in different combinations. I like to create projects that expand the student's 'bag of tricks' and then pushes what they can do with them to the limit. Many of my classes/workshops have incorporated zine-making to some degree. This is an excellent way for students to collaborate and share their art. In the past I have booked tables at conventions/events where students have sold their zines. I am also interested in workshops on board game design. From research to concept development, prototyping, and testing, creating a board game is a fun way to get a crash course in design.
