Ku-Sem, Evelyn Chan
Ku-Sem Chan, Evelyn is a painter and mixed media artist. Nature always plays a role in her work; her fondness for landscape architecture, textiles and gardening influences her studio practice. Evelyn's works often explore the notion of time and nature. Her recent show, Containers, included a group of 14 abstract and minimalistic paintings. It explored the materiality of paint and clay, and the relationship between handwriting and the passage of time.
Workshops and Activities
I am eager to design specific workshops in order to attain the objectives of the school curriculum creatively. Below are examples of workshops that I have done: A book binding workshop that incorporates math, material properties and journal keeping. A group collage workshop, which include activities like letting participants pass around their collage and let others add to it. The aim is to engage people in art making, foster a sense of collectiveness and encourage participant to share their ideas. Some of my area of interest include: Painting and drawing in studio and outside Embroidery and stitching Book Binding Marbling paper Craft/art making with clay Calligraphy Mixed media drawing To me, it is important that the workshops provides the participants an interesting experience and an atmosphere in which creative thinking is encouraged.
