Isao Sanami Morrill
I have been a potter for almost 50 years and a painter for 28 years. I have received several awards on my pottery. I studied several different techniques from Japan, Africa, Korea, East India, North America and South America. I would like to share my experience with young people. I would like to introduce clay to young people and to see what they do.
Workshops and Activities
The pottery is a 3 dimensional art form. The workshop/class require only two main materials: clay and water. As for Clay, I have deep understanding of natural clay, how to identify and process. I was lucky to start making clay before making pottery with direct instruction from several master potters in Japan. I have not able to classify myself either I was educated formally or not if one says only the institution provide such education. I usually explore the possibility according to the class situation. If there are pottery equipment, such as, potters' wheel, slab roller, pugmill, excluder, and kiln, I am able to show the students how to run them. If there isn't any,I have several knowledge of hand made pottery techniques. I have been finding out how important for the students to work with simple material like clay. They always amaze me by their free form or detailed form of all sort. It is also important to handle natural materials with their hands. I have almost 50 years of pottery experience. I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with young people.
