Workshops and Activities
Colour plays a key role in my approach to painting. Colour is my passion. With the vibrant colours and spontaneous flow of Alcohol Ink, I find it meditative to watch them work their magic. They move freely and blend together playfully, creating unexpected shapes and outlines. Being alcohol based, however, the paints dry fast. But, with careful timing and the use of unconventional tools, I encourage their flow to reveal a glimpse of landscapes and skylines beyond your imagination. I paint because it gives me a way to de-stress and puts me in a state of consciousness I’ve never found anywhere else. Life can be fast paced and stressful and art provides me a way to slow down, look outward, and listen inward. My favourite mediums to work with are those that provide spontaneity and flow (Pouring Alcohol Inks, Resins, Acrylics and Tempra Paints). In working with students, I hope to provide not only the hands on experience of working with new art mediums, but to then use what they've created as a vehicle for practising skills such as writing, story telling and verbal expression. Putting yourself and your art "out there" (be it aural or visual) can be intimidating, but the life long skills of listening to, giving and receiving constructive criticism is an important one. Creating a safe environment which encourages students to take risks is a skill I've had experience working on with students ages 7-16 in my vocal studio.
