Carrie Phillips Kieser is a print media artist living and working in Nova Scotia She was the Executive Director of of Alberta Printmakers, a non-profit & artist-run centre in Calgary, Alberta. She worked with Royal Conservatory of Music’s Learning Through the Arts program for 2 years and taught art to children and adults in the evenings through a private Art Studio. She believes that art education for today’s youth will build better educated, informed and creative communities in the future. With an interest in making art accessible to all, she served on the Calgary Public Art board for two years.
Workshops and Activities 
Techniques are: Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, Watercolour and Pastel Resist, small weaving, book arts. Workshops I have created and delivered include: GRADE 4 PROJECT GOALS Create a folding booklet around the theme of light and shadow using plant material as the focus CORE CURRICULAR EXPECTATIONS Understanding of Light and Shadow ART CURRICULAR EXPECTATIONS To Learn the vocabulary and techniques of cyanotype printing, and 2 colour styrofoam relief printing. MATERIALS REQUIRED Styrofoam plates, bond paper, brayers, mirrors (as inking plates), block printing ink, mayfair paper, cyanotype paper, glue, black sharpie markers or plant material, working flashlights, plants, pencils, transparencies, scissors, text material for printing onto. GRADE K PROJECT GOALS Create a 4 part project under the theme of the evolution of a butterfly CORE CURRICULAR EXPECTATIONS Explore the evolution of the butterfly ART CURRICULAR EXPECTATIONS Learn how to create prints with leaves, develop fine motor skills through stringing beads and felt, build a 3D object through paper mache and to learn watercolour techniques with resist and salt. MATERIALS REQUIRED Fabric, felt sheets, yarn, pompoms, plastic needles, small balloons, tissue paper, buttons, brayers, printmaking ink, black construction paper, watercolour paper, leaves, flour and water GRADE 4 Project Goals Create a series of Prints around the theme of trilobites Core Curriculum Expectations identify and describe rocks that contain records of Earth’s history (300-7) Art Curricular Expectations Work with negative space, Learn the vocabulary and techniques of printmaking, including monoprints and 2 colour styrofoam relief printing.
