Native to Nova Scotia, Kelly's a fan of “support local” , believing that your community is only as good as you make it. Residing in Windsor, Kelly enjoys creating in her Victorian studio surrounded by the quiet beauty of her small town. Painting in both acrylic and oil, she uses brushes and knives , loving thick textured layers of rich saturated colour, and is known best for her love of red and her signature paintings of poppies. Whether teaching, speaking or showing, Kelly enjoys a holistic art approach. You can find Her work in galleries across Canada and at kellymitchelmore.ca
Workshops and Activities
I like a very open and easy going approach to teaching If it is a talk to the students then I bring several pieces of mine as examples and I speak about how you can make it as an artist in today's fast changing economy. I cover things like social media and putting yourself out there - I try to bring real life experiences into it and hope to fuel a passion for the arts in either their career or as a part time interest. I will also talk about my own work and the materials I use and the challenges I have faced. When teaching I try to bring the fun of art into the lesson - and I teach acrylic painting. If it is a one day thing then I focus on a simple subject and create with them - allowing each to finish each step prior to continuing. Everyone is at different levels - but a slow steady pace will allow those that are fast to focus on details while those that might be struggling can have more time and not be left behind...... If it is a multi week class then I have lesson plans with detailed steps that involve both painting and informative lectures and home work is usually assigned. I try and get the students to understand a bit more about colour theory and composition. Most importantly - art should evoke joy - not frustration :)
