Lynda Shalagan

Halifax
As a professional artist and art educator, I work primarily in oil paint and montage but have taught a broader range of mediums and techniques as a junior high and high school art teacher and a facilitator of many children’s and adult workshops for a period of 40 years. I studied textiles, carpentry and other crafts before embarking on a career in painting giving me an extensive repertoire of skills in the classroom.
Workshops and Activities
In my workshops with children and teens, I bring my own skills and interests into the classroom working with fabrics (stitching / embroidery, appliqué, dying), paint, collage, drawing and photography. I employ technical skill building with reference to colour theory, composition, art history and the elements and principles of design. Projects can be individual or group oriented and subject matter can be discussed in terms of relevance to curriculum, community or cultural events. My experience provides me with the ability to creatively adapt many different techniques to various age levels and interests.
