I am a retired Visual Arts teacher having worked in Sydney, N.S. and Saskatoon, SK. Now, I am a full-time exhibiting painter working primarily in acrylic, though I often add paper, ink, and tempera to my canvases. Two years ago, with a friend, I completed a Canada 150 project, painting 53 landscapes each representing what could be seen outside a car window on the Trans Canada Highway from coast to coast. This exhibited in Toronto and Montreal. Currently, I am working on a series that will exhibit next year.
Workshops and Activities
Having taught Visual Arts for a number of years, there are a lot of techniques and mediums I am able to explore with students. And, I am always up for a challenge. In my own practice, primarily as an acrylic painter, I love to add mixed media, whether it's paper, ink, or different type of paint to create a sense of history and dimension. Landscapes and portraiture seem to be my main focus. Having taught visual art to grades one through twelve, there are many workshops I could offer; from stencil creation through the printmaking process, observational drawing techniques from study to the finished art piece, mixed media painting, or painting with unusual materials. The elements and principals of art are fundamentals to all projects and there are many lessons that focus on any of them.
