Alicia Hunt

Lunenburg
Alicia Hunt is an artist, art instructor, and community artist based on the South Shore who has always felt at home near large bodies of water. Alicia’s artmaking practice is centred on themes of place and community and she invites others into greater connection with their local landscapes. She works with tactile local materials, such as foraged natural dye material, seawater, and drawing/ fieldnote book making. Alicia graduated from Algoma University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012, and holds an MFA from NSCAD University (2019) where she was a recipient of SSHRC federal research funding.
Workshops and Activities
As an artist, I am most interested in the tactility and sensory experience of art, and how art invites us into greater connection with ourselves, one another, and our local landscape. I am very open to working with you to provide workshops that your students would enjoy and be challenged by. I have instructed children’s art classes for five years and am keen to help your students gain new skills, and connect a workshop to current topics they are learning about in school. Classroom (and/ or outdoor!) workshops that I would be happy to offer include, but are not limited to: - bundle natural dyeing with local plants - field note book/ sketchbook making for a focus on the two primary elements that make up field notation: observation and reflection, and going on a walk together to record both words and drawings - mono printmaking with found/ natural materials - wearable art making: a variety of materials would be available for imaginative creating and demos provided for techniques such as basic sewing, riveting, pocket making, etc. - paintbrush making with natural and at-hand materials (i.e. pine needles, thread, etc.) - pocket/ apron making (basic sewing/ fabric collage) to later be able to collect found materials in their favourite place - wax resist drawings (perhaps of a map to their favourite place) then watercolour applied. I am happy to work with you to plan workshops to be best suited to your students. More of my art can be found at aliciahunt.ca
