Workshops and Activities
Ideas of interest: Watercolour and drawing workshop: I create small watercolour drawings influenced by the people and environments around me. I would ask the students to develop small works on paper, utilizing both drawing (graphite) material and watercolour methods to choose to either depict a classmate, themselves, or the environment around them, or a combination of these elements. The purpose is to explore these subjects representationally, but allowing distortion to occur. Watercolour can be a challenging material, it's fluid and unexpected results are created. This is an important quality to the creative process, and students will benefit from using the material directly, learning some control while allowing for the spontaneous marks. The project would help to strengthen drawings skills while providing the students with the opportunity to reflect on their lives, and how the people in their lives, and their surrounding environments can influence them. I'd like for the work to open a discussion about success, and how feeling successful, and good about one's life is key to an overall happy life. The subject of the project can be refined as we develop the idea for a specific class. I am certainly willing to develop a specific workshop with a teacher, if they have specific themes within the curriculum which they wish to investigate further, through visual language.
